Chinatown CSC
Our team was tasked with developing a series of AR exhibits to drive engagement and excitement for the Chinatown Storytelling Centre, a small new museum in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown. We worked closely with the entire curatorial team to design and develop 5 augmented reality exhibits for the Centre, covering everything from historic recreation of Chinatown’s neon signs, to a hyper-realistic interactive exhibit about the experiences of one of Chinatown’s oldest war veteran. Our services included research, exhibit design, 3D reconstruction, as well as AR interaction development - basically everything from concept to execution once the curatorial team decided the topic of each exhibit. With limited floor space and a desire to attract and engage with a new generation of younger visitors, we designed and implemented a series of AR interactive “rooms” which virtually extended the limited physical space of the Centre, and provided simple game-like interactions for visitors. Utilizing our YumeGo Management System (YMS) our team was able to fine tune the placement of our AR exhibits to perfectly complement the physical exhibits. Future plans include adding more AR exhibits via YMS ensuring fresh experiences for returning visitors at a fraction of the cost of new physical exhibits.
